CONSIDERING FOSTERING?
Thank You for Considering Becoming a Foster with Pugs and Hugs Rescue.
Fosters are the FRONT LINE for our rescue dogs and a critical part of saving more lives! A foster home provides a temporary, loving environment for dogs while they wait for their forever families. As a foster, you offer shelter, food, care, love, and guidance. Pugs and Hugs Rescue covers all medical expenses — you provide the heart and home.
The number of dogs we can save directly depends on how many people open their hearts and homes to foster. For many dogs, this may be their first experience as part of a family. You are their hope, their safety, their bridge to a better life. Never underestimate the incredible role you play in their journey!
DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR MY FOSTER?
No! Hugs and Pugs provides for all medical expenses for foster pups as long as approved by a Hugs and Pugs director.
WHAT IF I WANT TO KEEP MY FOSTER?
Worried you won’t be able to give your foster pup up? Don’t be! We absolutely love when a foster family decides to adopt their foster pup — there’s even a special name for it: “Foster Fails” (but we think it's more of a Foster Win!).
WHY FOSTER?
Fostering is the lifeblood of our rescue efforts. Without foster homes, we simply can’t save dogs. But fostering is also an incredibly rewarding experience for you:
Save Lives: Every foster home opens up space for another dog in need.
Flexibility: Enjoy the companionship of a dog without a lifetime commitment.
Test the Waters: See how a new dog fits into your home and lifestyle.
Help Dogs Heal: Many of our dogs are learning what love feels like for the first time — you are their guide.
Be Part of a Community: Join a supportive network of fellow fosters and dog lovers.
While saying goodbye can be bittersweet, the joy of seeing your foster dog find their perfect home is unmatched. Plus, every goodbye means you can save another precious pup!
HOW LONG IS THE TYPICAL FOSTER?
Fostering typically lasts 2-4 weeks, though it can vary. Some dogs may need more time due to age, medical needs, or simply adjusting to life outside a shelter. Most dogs are ready for adoption once they've received basic care like vaccinations, microchipping, and spay/neuter procedures — usually within 2-3 weeks.
The more photos, notes, and updates you share with us, the faster we can match your foster dog with their forever family!
FOSTER FAMILY RESPONSIBILITIES…
As a foster, you’ll be providing love and care, but we’ll be right by your side, covering all medical costs. Here’s what we ask of you:
Provide a safe, clean, and loving environment.
Ensure your foster dog has food, water, exercise, and socialization.
Monitor their health and behavior, administering medication if needed (we provide all supplies).
Help with transport to vet appointments, adoption events, and meet-and-greets.
Share updates — photos, personality quirks, and fun stories help us find the perfect home faster!
Help choose your foster’s forever family — your insight is invaluable.
THE IMPACT…
What does fostering really mean? It means saving lives. It means being the reason a scared, homeless dog transforms into a confident, happy pet. It means witnessing the incredible journey from neglected to nurtured.
THE BENEFIT…
For Existing Pets: Introduce a playmate and provide extra socialization.
For Families: Teach children empathy, responsibility, and selflessness.
For You: Join a community of compassionate people working toward a shared mission.
For Your Heart: There’s no better feeling than knowing you helped a dog find their happy ending.
And if you fall head over heels for your foster pup? We’re always thrilled when a foster becomes a forever home.
